Las Vegas is known as the entertainment capital of the world and is visited by over 40 million tourists each year. The city of Las Vegas is situated in the southwestern area of the state of Nevada in the United States of America. Las Vegas is a fantasy land, located near the border of Arizona and California, about 450km from the city of Los Angeles.

Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada and its name means “The meadows” in Spanish. Visitors come to Las Vegas from all over the world to enjoy the many Las Vegas attractions, dine at the sumptuous Las Vegas restaurants in the city and shop at the glitzy avenue stores.

The most visited landmark is the "Strip" or street which is about 6.7 km long and formally known as" Las Vegas Boulevard South ". Many of the world's largest hotels, casinos and resorts are located on this street so any visitor should aim to find accommodation on or near the Vegas Strip.

An adult playground for most of the year, it has legalized gambling, topless lounges and glamorous nightclubs. The city lives on long into the night and alcohol and entertainment are available 24 hours a day. Various forms of entertainment including: dancing, daily shows, auto racing, golf, live concerts and much more are conducted all year round.

Resorts including the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, Flamingo, Mirage, Bellagio, Bally's are just a few of the thousands of hospitality establishments that line “The Street". Many of these resorts take up acres of land with amusement parks, lakes, animal parks, botanical gardens, towers, roller coasters, aquariums and video arcades that enable tourists to enjoy an unforgettable holiday.

Also, top name entertainers regularly appear at the glitzy, popular Las Vegas shows that are abundant in this city. The more prepared you are before the holiday the better as there is a great deal to fit in when on holiday in this amazing city.

Many of the hotels and resorts have shopping arcades associated with them. There shops are very upscale and the prices are sometimes steep. Even cars such as Ferrari are on sale at some of these places. The shopping centers on the Strip are more expensive that the markets in the Downtown area or outlet stores located far away from the Strip. Credit Cards, ATM cards and cash are usually accepted in most of these shopping centers.

Grand Canyon

A short helicopter flight is the Grand Canyon or a few hours drive to the Western Rim where you can view the Grand Canyon but not walk down. To walk down you need to go to the South Rim which is about 5 hours drive from Las Vegas.
